Plastic is the most abundant material on Earth but at the same time one that threatens the future health of the environment. Nowadays, the damage caused by the improperly waste, kills thousands of living creatures, and contaminates the soil. It is estimated that the time required for degradation of a plastic fragment is 500 years: during this period the size is reduced progressively becoming more and more dangerous for the animals that can ingest it.
Worryingly this view fits with the invention of a Colombian architect, Oscar Andrés Méndez: transforming
plastic waste into building materials for the construction of low-cost buildings. Unless there is a marked change in people’s habits, in 2025 there will be 155 million tonnes of plastic waste in the water around the world
